Precision Benchmarking & Industry Standards

“Benchmarking Accuracy: AN-SOF vs. The Gold Standard”

“In my comparative analysis of antenna simulation tools, AN-SOF demonstrated exceptional accuracy when measured against the King-Middleton 2nd-order solution: the industry ‘gold standard’ for theoretical results. While NEC4.2 failed to converge and NEC5 exhibited wavelength offsets, AN-SOF achieved precise convergence reliably. I now use AN-SOF exclusively for my Yagi-Uda analysis and design. It is a superior tool for both professional and high-level amateur applications.”

“I use AN-SOF extensively for my column in Practical Wireless. Its superior graphics are essential for presenting complex data in a clear, professional format, but more importantly, the simulation accuracy is outstanding. When comparing AN-SOF’s SWR results to my real-world measurements for a dual-band vertical dipole, the correlation was excellent. The ease of use and speed of building models are also major benefits.”

“I have used AN-SOF for years as my primary tool for antenna modeling. Unlike legacy NEC-based codes, AN-SOF offers superior numerical precision and a more robust feature set. For those comparing it to NEC4 or NEC5, AN-SOF provides significantly better value and greater capabilities. Additionally, the technical support is exceptional: delivered by expert engineers who are truly passionate about their craft.”

Note for Linux Users: “AN-SOF runs flawlessly on Linux (OpenSUSE via Crossover), allowing for a high-performance workflow without the need for a Windows partition.”

“Pro-grade precision. I found that simulations are remarkably close to reality. AN-SOF is an excellent design tool and the technical support is first-class. I receive beta versions and new features as soon as they are available before official release since I am a Premier member and long-time customer.”

Field Validation & Professional Insights

“Having used various free antenna simulators, I find that AN-SOF provides a much higher level of detail in its graphical output, allowing me to analyze E-fields, power density, and current distributions with ease. While the standalone console app provides quick raw data, the engine embedded in the AN-SOF interface is fast and can be configured for maximum accuracy directly within the workspace, which is my preferred professional workflow.

The technical support is top-of-the-line. When I encounter a challenge in the evening, I typically have a clear answer in my inbox by the following morning. Beyond the software itself, the extensive library of working examples and the regular newsletter provide excellent starting points and inspiration for new designs. It is a comprehensive tool for any serious consultant or operator.”

Douglas Datwyler, WR7O, Consultant and Amateur Radio Operator

“AN-SOF is an impressive simulation tool. The documentation is so thorough and comprehensive that I had the User Guide printed as a book to serve as a permanent reference for my technical questions. I especially appreciate the opportunity to evaluate new versions before their public release: a privilege that I value highly. It is clear that a significant amount of professional effort has gone into making this a top-tier product for the antenna community.”

“Exceptional Support and User-Friendly Design”

“As a retired communications engineer and active amateur radio operator, I have used various software packages for antenna design throughout my career. I have found AN-SOF to be exceptionally user-friendly and easy to learn, backed by excellent technical support. I highly recommend AN-SOF to both my former professional colleagues and fellow radio amateurs.”

“Not a replacement for HFSS/CST in multi-layer stacks”

“I expected AN-SOF to handle complex PCB layouts with multiple dielectric layers like the high-end enterprise tools. It doesn’t. The CMoM engine has been extended to handle simple single-layer printed antennas backed by a PEC ground, and that is it. If you need a tool for high-density board simulation, look elsewhere. However, for the specific printed antennas it is designed for, the results are close enough to measurements. Just make sure you read the FAQs before buying so you understand the boundaries.”

“Too much math, not enough shortcuts”

“The antenna book has way too much advanced math. I was looking for a quick cheat sheet for my designs, but this is a deep academic dive into CEM theory and electromagnetics. It is an intense resource that requires a serious time commitment to digest. It’s great if you want to become a master of the physics, but it is definitely not for the casual hobbyist.”

“Tony refused to simulate my model”

“I reached out to support because my simulation wasn’t converging. Instead of just fixing the file, Tony told me my model was fundamentally flawed and refused to run it until I corrected the underlying physics. He wouldn’t let me use the software to produce a wrong answer. I ended up having to rethink my entire geometry. I appreciate the honesty now, but at the time, I just wanted the software to work without a physics lecture.”
